I doubt it, not with an honest election anyway. Remember while he had 49/50 of the electoral vote even Reagan only had 58.8% of the popular vote, it isn't like the entire country was united behind him, I'd bet those same 41% who voted against him have continued to vote (D) in every election since, it's the small number of swing voters in the middle who decide elections.
That's probably true. If a candidate can completely capture that swing vote, then maybe.
That is how I remember where FOX is on our cable channels; the number of states our "president" thinks we have.
I suppose it helps when the person running has been a member of both parties in his lifetime. It was like a Democrat running as a Republican. You can't tell the difference between the parties anymore anyway with everybody just saying what they think will get them elected.
Reagan won 49 of the 50 states, losing only to Mondale as his home state was the only state to go with him in 1984. Will we ever again see a President who is so popular, so effective, so kind to the other party that even they will say, okay let's reelect him and he/she wins 49 of the 50 states....will we ever be that unified and get to that point in our lifetime again? Why do you think yes or no?
Maybe, if the GOP nominates someone like Trump or Santorum.
The only way I can see that happening today is that if there was an incumbent who become so unpopular he was disliked not only by the opposing party but his own party as well. The challenger could then come in and sweep a majority of states in a landslide. Thats about the only scenario I can think of where this can happen today. The two parties are just too polarized.
