Seattle will not get rid of its city council for trying to get residents to compost. They believe in it. A few cranky residents may complain but the overwhelming majority believe in composting trash.
Eight Seattle residents have filed suit with the help of the conservative Pacific Legal Foundation against probes of their garbage containers. Seattle liberals have been pushing for several years to conduct searches of garbage, going back to Mayor Greg Nickels, who was last in office in 2010. The idea is to search peoples' garbage to see if they are recycling properly, and slap a fine on them if not.

Thanks to the drug war and the conservatives on the Supreme Court, the 4th Amendment does not apply to your garbage. Police have the power to search your garbage at will to look for evidence of crimes.
Sigh..... Democrats in the South were conservative. Being a "democrat" hasn't always meant be liberal/progressive.

Meanwhile, in the Great Pacific Northwest, recycling companies are going out of business hand over fist, with Waste Management closing down major portions of their PNW recycling branches.
Public schools separate items in the building (to help the kids learn about recycling), but at the end of the day, it all goes into the same dumpster ...

Takoma Park, MD has been searching through, red tagging and fining residents for a couple decades over improper recycling.
