Turns out the providing so much "free" food to people actually makes them more likely to be obese than the rest of the population. Who would have thought?

Forty percent of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program beneficiaries were obese during those years, the study found, compared with 32 percent of poor people who didn't get SNAP benefits and 30 percent of higher-income Americans.
Food Stamp Recipients More Likely To Be Obese, Study Finds

Even "poor people" who don't get food stamps are more likely to be obese than "higher-income" people. So much for the "we can't let the children starve" argument that liberals keep parroting.

I only need one reason to end food stamps. They are immoral because they are funded by theft of wages

It's possible they are eating the wrong kinds of foods and also not staying fit and active - possibly from working 2 jobs and time to cook healthy meals or exercise.

For example, eating hotdogs and french fries and donuts. These foods are cheaper, but a steady diet of such foods is more likely to result in obesity.

Anyone who has the slightest clue about the cost of good nutrition.

well when you have to pay for your own food and healthcare these things usually work themselves out.

You missed the part about when they were given more money for food via food stamps, the result was a higher percentage of obesity:

The obesity rate of poor people who don't get food stamps is only slightly higher than that of higher-income earners. But the poor's obesity rate takes a HUGE jump when they are given food stamps.

Interesting article. And from HuffPo, no less.

It costs more to buy heathy food in many cases. Whole wheat bread is more expensive than white bread. Low fat hamburger is more expensive that regular hamburger (with higher fat content).

Fish can be pretty pricey, but fish sticks are the cheapest and the least healthy.

So if you have more money for your food budget then it's easier to choose healthy food. And, you can also afford a health club.

This isn't the case for ALL food. But in general, lots of the healthier food is more expensive.

Obesity is caused by over-eating. People can lose weight while eating any kind of food as long as they consume fewer calories than they burn.

Please stop make excuses for these people by spreading this mis-information. There's already enough liberal propaganda in here without having to mix fat-acceptance propaganda in with it.

A lesson in irony.

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is actually proud of the fact it is distributing the greatest amount of free meals and food stamps ever.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us to "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because the animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves.

This ends today's lesson.
