Apparently there is a common theme in these shootings. This theater was a gun free zone where one cannot carry their concealed weapon legally.
Are you saying that people should go to the movies armed? There is not a first world country other than the US that would ever sanction such a move. But then first world countries don't have the second amendment which guarantees that any American citizen, even a mentally ill one, can own a gun.

England of course.
Home of the Free and the Brave.
I always have a side arm on me whenever I go to the movies. I also carry at church, supermarket and any other place that isn't Federally or State prohibited.
Just like my pocket knife that I have been carrying since I was a kid.
Sadly the first people posting about these tragedies are quick to try to politicize it, and they are in turn followed quickly by those who get attack them over it for the same political reasons. That happened again here. Neither side can claim the moral high ground, its been lost too long ago.
The rest of us can try to find out the facts and speculate on the motives behind it. I initially thought maybe young people pissed off an unstable older person and he in turn lost his temper or felt threatened. Now it seems he was a drifter so that opens up a few cans of worms nobody will like.
Did he have the gun legally or illegally? Was he down and out or mentally ill and fell through the cracks of the health care system? Was he a drug user or an substance abuser? Did he have lose his business or job or his family? "Old white guy " adds practically nothing to the story any more than if it was a "young black guy".
I'd say just ignore the posts centering on race and gun control and try to let the rational people have the discussion.

I go everywhere legally armed. Never notice any such silly signs.

Hmmmmm let's see this thread is in the Politics and Other controversies forum. Didn't realize we could only discuss certain topics pertaining to this tragedy.
You wont find out any facts other than what is spoon fed to you by the media and to some degree by the government agencies in charge of the investigation.
Speculate all you want if it makes you feel better or more secure somehow. It absolutely won't change a damn thing with regards to the outcome.
I'm just wondering, have you ever been in a gun battle where many people a shooting?
Irrelevant.
The point is that it is very clear that when there are restrictions placed on private citizens' rights to arm themselves they become targets of those who do not respect the law. Over and over again it plays itself out.
Now I also want to say that I am utterly disgusted with the fight against basic common sense gun laws.
IMO, EVERYONE should be forced to go through a gun training course before owning a firearm. Background checks should be much more thorough. Gun shows and the like where people may skirt around existing laws ought to be banned or at least forced to comply with existing gun laws where they are held.
All are no-brainers, and I can't understand how anyone would be against any of them.
