My oh my, how the times have changed. Those men would be ashamed of today's Americans and all the intrusions we put up with from our government.

I said I would abolish currency...

A tea tax designed to raise money to pay for the defense of the 13 colonies and reduce the money the Crown had to spend to keep us safe from pirates, Angry Natives, Spain and France.. The Crown mistakenly believed we should pull our weight as a part of the British Empire and quit being freeloaders.
By refusing to do this America set a president of freeloading that has carried down to the present day .
Freeloading is in our DNA!

Tesla invented both the AC generator and the AC motor while working at Edison's laboratory in NJ! However, Mr Edison refused to have anything to do with AC technology believing it too dangerous and un-necessary since he had already invented DC technology. Edison didn't believe in re-inventing the wheel.
Tesla also grasped something called reactance which is frequency dependent and makes it possible to transmit AC power over hundreds of miles while DC power can only be transmitted a few miles. Hence Tesla could serve the electrical needs of NYC, Philadelphia, Cleveland and Detroit and Boston in the 1890s from one large power plant on the US-Canada border near Niagara Falls. Tesla brought us into the Electric Age with a little financial help from J.P. Morgan.

Sure, none of us liked being criticized or scolded by our parents, but they cared very deeply for us and had our best interests at heart. My personal belief is that America would be much better as a dictatorship, with a dictator as a loving, caring father of the nation. How about a dictator who puts the kibosh on violent crime? On poverty? On obesity? On recreational drug use? On alcoholism? On teen pregnancy? On pornography? On homegrown terrorism? An individual with absolute power over the nation's 300 million+ inhabitants would have much more opportunity to reshape the nation than an individual who is limited by elections, a supreme court, a constitution, and so much other red tape. Look at Obama: everyone (both Democrats and Republicans alike) know he is powerless over a lot of decisions because Republicans in power have veto power. Personally, if I were an American dictator, this would be my plan:

1. Require all citizens to graduate a class on ethics and good citizenship (those who resisted this class would be imprisoned).

2. Abolish all compulsory education laws, but in addition to teaching the class above, create education programs that are voluntary to enroll in.

3. Abolish the concept of currency (within United States borders). Individuals would be provided with all their basic needs (food, clothing, shelter, etc) and America would cease all trade with foreign nations except for foreign trade ordered by me.

4. Religion would be forbidden. Thoughts would be allowed and respected, but churches, mosques, temples, etc would be permanently shut down.

5. Abortion would be forbidden.

6. Homosexual activity would be forbidden.

7. Unmarried sexual activity would be forbidden.

8. Laws would be enacted to reverse the effects of "social class" discrimination that has been engrained in our society for a very long time.

9. Pornography would be forbidden and anyone convicted of production or possession would be sent to a psychiatric institution for the rest of his/her life.

10. For marijuana, cocaine, heroin, the same treatment as pornography.

11. There would be a federal dress code, requiring individuals to dress in a way that is respectful, modest, and in good taste.

12. There would be very, very strict standards for the maintenance of buildings, vehicles, and other property. Violators would have their property confiscated.

13. Women would be given all say in divorce proceedings.

14. Neighborhoods would be strictly separated by ethnicity.

15. Disabled people would be permanently excused from work.

16. Veterans would be promoted to political office, regardless of other qualifications.

17. Movies and television would be banned, except for those of educational value as determined by a censor.

18. Weapons would be confiscated. Only police would be allowed to have weapons.

19. Lies would be punishable by execution.

20. Reckless driving would be classified as road rage and be a criminal offense.

21. Travel outside the country would be strictly forbidden except for that by government officials.
You asked: Why is dictatorship bad?

The answer: "Isn't a dictator like a strict parent, and citizens are like children?"

You didn't even need that long post, you answered your own question.

You're an adult, you don't need the government to "parent" you. Take responsibility for yourself. The end.

By the way, if you think Cuba is such a wonderful place to live, I implore you to move to Miami and start talking to some Cubans. If that country was so fantastic, why do people risk their lives on tires, floating trucks, rafts, pieces of wood, etc to make it to this country? It isn't what you see in travel magazines. That's not how many Cubans actually live.
