If someone thinks "black" is a racial slur, then I think that person is the real racist. Being black or being called black is nothing to be ashamed of.
If this couple was truly offended at the fact of their blackness being written on a receipt, then they need the help of a non-wing nut mental health professional.
You're not a minority, you don't know what it feels like to be a minority. So, of course you just can't comprehend why this couple felt offended. They felt they were being singled out, do I need to spell it out for you?
I've been described as the "White woman with glasses" and I didn't get offended. (Mexican restaurant).
People need to get over themselves with this idea that everyone hates them and is racist.
I am in California... you dont even Know what it's like!... A tear for you and the opressed.. WAAAA. Get a fri ken hobby
Uh, yeah I do. I grew up in a tiny town where 99% of the people were WASPs, literally, and I was straight of the Caribbean . Quit your belly aching woe is me.

I've been called that Puerto Rican guy before and I didn't get offended either. But, I can see how some others would get offended. Hell, there are women who get offended if you say that blond woman or whatever. People are missing the point here way too much. I don't say to people you see those gringos there? No, that's rude. I don't say such things in English, or Spanish. It's low class no matter who you are
Again...what would she have called the couple if there were several black couples in that restaurant.
Answer that please someone!
She could have labeled them by their clothing or something else relevant about their appearance.
But really, what is so bad about calling them a "black couple."
I frequently went to places with few whites when I lived in metro Atlanta and if there was a white person and I spoke about that person using their name and someone asked me where he/she was, I could point and tell them it was the white man/woman over there.
Nothing wrong with that. Nothing derogatory about mentioning someone's ethnicity or skin color as long as it's not mentioned along with a negative connotation.
And I can see the manager counseling her about not putting those descriptive words into the computer system, but firing her....that was too much IMO. She could have received more training.
So what's wrong with referring to their table number?
Actually, all I see in this topic are right-wing WASPs that they can't say what they want
She said she was having problem with the numbers. Did you not read the story ?
Probably new on the job and doing her best to get the right orders to the right people.
