A woman kills a serial killer with his own gun, apparently he was stupid as well as evil, but without that gun she would almost certainly have been killed along with however many more he would have gone on to kill.

Self-defense killing: Attacker tied to unsolved crimes? - CNN.com

Will the anti gun nuts ignore this story too? Ignore how the only thing that saved her was access to a firearm - she should have had her own within reach, but using the killers worked just as well in this case.

Wow, quite a stretch and imagination to spin this incident into a pro-gun "anti-gun nuts" post.
If he put down a knife and she killed him with his knife would you make a pro-knife post?

Its hardly a stretch when liberal nutjobs constantly, mindlessly repeat 'no one needs a gun' anytime one is used to commit a crime, but they suddenly become blind, deaf and dumb over the hundreds of thousands of times one is used to save a life or prevent a crime. They'll wail and gnash their teeth for dozens of pages repeating the same old lies when a tragedy happens but won't even admit something this this incident ever even happens at all.

I don't remember seeing anyone screeching about banning knives recently. Or background checks or ...insert hysterical fear induced proposal.

Good for her, I'm glad she's alive and he's not.

From the story, you can't tell whether she had self-defense training and/or had experience with guns.

Before this ends in the usual CD gun debate way, I'll just point out a couple of things:

1) guns are not the problem. People who kill people are the problem. Guns have many uses; some people just shoot them for fun. Others carry them as personal defense. Some for sport. Yes, like all things that exist, some people will misuse them to harm others, but that's not a valid reason to ban them. If we used that logic on everything, everything from cars to religion would be completely illegal.

2) the idea that everyone being armed means everyone is safe is absurd. No it doesn't. A criminal can still shoot first. A person can miss, or panic in a situation. Simply having a gun does not mean you're safe. To claim that the ONLY reason this women is alive is because she had a gun (which she didn't; she took it form her killer) is realistically not true.

3) I have no problem with people owning guns, and while I'm against extreme gun control, I'm open to talking about some basic gun control procedures. One thing that I encourage everyone to realize is that 'gun culture' can basically be split into two camps: rural and urban. Rural gun culture is very different than urban gun culture. Most if not all legislation revolving around gun control seems to only look at the urban aspect, which is not a good thing.

It's true that urban and rural people have very different takes on what gun control could mean.

A rural person thinks immediately of their kid's .22, their deer hunting rifle, and the revolver kept for home and/or bear defense. Why on earth would any sane person want to take these guns away from me?

An urban person (this is a true story, I am the eavesdropper) thinks immediately of the two white suburban 15-yos overheard at the magazine stand, leafing through the gun mags, and discussing which guns they wanted to buy and who they intended to dominate/intimidate with said guns (including one kid's "old man"). Why on earth would any sane person want to see guns in the hands of these kids?

Absolutists will never be able to thread this needle, yet this issue seems to attract absolutists. It is very difficult to have a rational discussion.

You are more likely to need a gun for self defense in an urban area compared to rural. Of course the urban states is where you still have limited access to concealed carry permits.
