air conditioning a major contributor to global warming. Should Washington DC take the lead in deleting AC to fight AGW? (statistics, Amish)

Air conditioning runs on electricity, and electricity is still largely produced from the burning of coal. As such it is a major contributor to greenhouse emissions and global warming.
Washington DC is built on a swamp and would shut down in the sweltering summers if not for AC. Would it be a good idea for DC to take the initiative and eliminate AC, at least from federal buildings, in the cause of reducing global warming?
Not being an atmospheric scientists, I remain agnostic on the whole question of global warming, but I wonder why those who profess true belief don't seem to act on those beliefs. They fly around the globe, including to Hawaii, and they run their AC in August in DC.

It's just a logical fallacy to suggest the bolded. These people don't want the world to become Amish or abandon technology.
Today, nearly nine of 10 Americans use a/c to cool their homes. Cox is one of the remaining 10-percenters who doesn't use one.
"If we are going to have to decide that there are some technologies that are not necessities, maybe we can do without some of them," Cox said. "Until a half-century ago a/c was not a necessity, maybe we should think about that again."
Do liberals believe in the threat of global warming, or no? If they do, why don't they put their actions where their mouth is?

Some of us -- shocker! -- either live without a/c, use it very sparingly, or power it off solar energy. I've done all three at various times in various parts of the country, so at least a few of us do act on our beliefs.

Wow, USA Today.....this is common knowledge, AC units are known for using a high amount of energy to run, so obviously it is going to be a contributor to global warming. Though I have always felt we should be relying more on thermal temperature rather than trying to cool or heat spaces with air.
