Am I the only person on thses boards that are getting a little tired of some of the same posters posting about how much been other countries handle things, or post about everything that is wront with AMerica and yet, they still continue to live here. I have to wonder why?
People in the US are 1000x crazier than UK citizens.
If in the US the guy would have actually attacked a cop with the machete - liberals would insist it go down that way before force is exerted.
The guy who got tazed most likely apologized for making them all come out.
Why waste all the manpower in these situations? Must be a slow town for all the Guardia to show up as they did.
The UK has a different culture, they do things differently across the sea ...
Police use of firearms in the UK is a very controversial subject that elicits alot of emotion. Many Brits - both those in politics and in the general public - want their police to maintain the "Bobby on the beat" image. It's silly and it's archaic but that's the Brits. Ironically enough, way back when (late 1800s) all British police officers were trained in the use firearms and carrying firearms was optional for every officer. Most officers assigned to night shifts did in fact carry firearms as a matter of routine well into the 1930s - after which the Brits regressed and restricted firearms to officers assigned to protection duties (Royal Family, senior government ministers, etc), certain specialist detective units, and extreme emergencies.
IIRC Ministry of Defense police services (both the civilian MOD police and British military's service police), UK Atomic Energy Authority Constabulary, and the Northern Ireland Police Service are entirely armed like our cops. In all other British police forces they have specially trained firearms officers to provide an armed presence.
I do believe we will eventually see a entirely armed police in the UK but it will be many years before this bit of common sense occurs.

All of which are strawmen arguments, because the issue isn't whether or not there is a need for armed police or the use of deadly force. The issue is in the comparison how one group of police demonstrate a willingness to rather the willingness to actually stand behind cover, retreat if necessary and only until an opportunity appeared to safely effectuate the arrest!
AND THEN...
...after the arrest was effected there weren't any snuck in kicks and punches and once the actual arrest was made one officer physically helped to separate unneeded officers from the arrest. That my apologetic friend is a distinction with a difference.
Let's make broad brush comparisons of hundreds of thousands of police officers in two different countries by comparing two videos. What could possibly go wrong.
