Obviously you were not around then. Americans WERE demanding the impeachment & trial of Nixon. The mobs were about to burn the White House down because of it.
Tricky Dick (he earned that name) had other plans however. He resigned and no doubt made a deal with his VP Ford for his pardon after the deed was done. Ford as President immediately pardoned Nixon which ended any further prosecution over the matter.
I most certainly was around then, and in my early 20's.I certainly don't remember any mobs around the Whitehouse! Why did the people allow him to resign and not insist on a court trial?
If I didn't have two toddlers at home then, you can bet I would have been in Washington raising hell!
