How does it make their case look better?....In most instances old records have been adjusted downwards because of poor locations of temperature stations, which would do just the opposite.

The same thing applies to ocean temperature records.

Don't include temperature records that don't meet todays standards, you just want to rely on records that go back around 50 years and start there, seriously.

Read up on it. Thermometers in the 1800s could be off 4-5 degrees and no one really cared.
