tell me again how well "rounded education" liberal arts and humanities are good for college when news reports of colleges resorting to censorship and mind control?
Larry Sommers of Harvard when force from his job when he talk about the biological differences between men and women.
The University of Tennessee has told its staff and students to stop calling each other 'he', 'she', 'him' and 'her' - and to start referring to one another with terms like 'xe', 'zir' and 'xyr' instead.
The Knoxville branch of the public university sent a memo round to its members filled with unusual new parts of speech to avoid referring to anybody's gender.
According to a gay rights official at the university, the new language regime will make the university 'welcoming and inclusive' and stop people feeling 'marginalized'.
Didn't see this thread, but this is what I posted a few minutes after OP:
The University of Tennessee in Knoxville is asking students, starting this upcoming semester, to stop using gender specific pronouns including 'he,' 'she,' 'her,' 'him,' etc. 'He' and 'she' become 'ze.' 'her' becomes 'hir,' and so forth. "They" becomes "xe." Full chart at link, including pronunciations. http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/ca...rticle/2571001
The university 'pride center' director explains:
Quote:
With the new semester beginning and an influx of new students on campus, it is important to participate in making our campus welcoming and inclusive for all. One way to do that is to use a student's chosen name and their correct pronouns...
Here's what I don't understand: "They," "them," and their" are to be replaced by 'xe,' 'xem,' and 'xyr,' respectively. But aren't these words are already gender-neutral?
Secondly, if I'm reading the chart right, it looks like 'her' is replaced by 'hir,' while 'him' now becomes 'zir.' Is that not incredibly sexist and micro-aggressive to have different words for different genders? Similarly 'hers' becomes 'hirs' and 'his' becomes 'zirs.' Sexist!
And parents are actually paying for their children to learn this...
