Either the Pope is slipping or someone made a huge error. Either way there is some explaining to do and damage control is in full on mode.

The Pope also visits prisoners. It doesn't mean he agrees with their crimes.

Does he bless the sins that got them in prison as well?

More gossip for the headline only readers.

Ok, let me break this down for you like a fraction. The Pope blessing a SSM would be the same as the Vatican blessing a divorce and remarriage. Or blessing a newly opened Planned Parenthood clinic.

Persons are incarcerated for a variety of reasons so your analogy is moot unless you state what sort of prisoners the Pontiff visited. There is a vast difference between political prisoners and those locked up for mass/serial murder.

Getting back on topic the optics of this boob aren't good for the Vatican. On the one hand it looks as if the Church "rubber stamps" series of boilerplate responses, the other is more worrisome as it can be taken to be a huge shift in RC church doctrine. All this coming against a backdrop of gays in Italy fighting an uphill battle to get the last remaining country in Western Europe to allow same sex marriages. More interesting is the Church is leading the fight against and unlike Spain and France is having more success with the Italians.

Again either way someone has explaining to do and it better be quick and good.

Catholics tend to have an open mind and are not fanatical about their religion. Yes, they were fanatical in medieval times, but that was a long time ago. The Pope is a liberal man!

Well he's a Jesuit for God's sake. They don't call them "Catholic Marxists" for nothing.

The Pope didn't bless same sex marriage. He blessed a mother. The Pope won't bless divorce but he will bless a divorcee.

That is why all churches I know prey for the sins of the church. Look at the history of Catholics and others have hidden the molesters among leadership of the churches; even to inhibiting prosecution. They are like all of us sinners and answerable to the lord in end .Its really no different than what Jesus found when he entered the temple in his time. One can bless individual gays and prey for them ;but not the union of same sex.

Yes its a church that has lots of problems. But its also a church that contributes much in the way of education and health services. If all catholic hospitals were to disappear for a month in this country we'd have a health care crisis similar to a 3 world country.
