Lol @ covering her arms, what's next? Burka?

But I don't think people in show business serve as role models. Those people turn their hobbies into their jobs and earn way too much money for it. That is not something to emulate. I would not want my kids to try and become like Beyonce.
Not to mention that I find her voice irritating

I hardly believe that Michelle wants her daughters to be like Beyonce...

This family (i mean Obama) never ceases to amaze me with their statements and actions...
A highly successful pop music/film star is suggested as a role model?

Outrageous!

Who's ever heard of such a thing?

I know...

Let's get all worked up over this and pump up our blood pressure and get those forehead veins pulsing. After all, what America really needs is more phony outrage.

Carry on.

You don't have to like them. You can judge them, talk about them, and hate them, so what; doesn't bother me one bit. Haters are gonna hate so enjoy your bitter hearts!

Stinks to be you. I am so happy my guy and his wife won......TWO TIMES!!
Obviously it does bother you or you wouldn't rush to post a rebuttal every time someone criticizes one of the infallible ones.

I understand pop culture is not for everyone.

And as futile as it probably is to defend it here, I'm going to give it a go anyway. It takes an incredible amount of work, determination, self confidence, and sheer doggedness to turn that hobby into a job.

Music is an essential part of the human experience. It marks high and low points in our lives, invokes memories, gives us empathy when no one else will, gives us something to dance to when we're feeling joyous, and something to soothe us when we're heartbroken. It would be a bleak world indeed if there weren't people out there giving voice to our emotions.

And who exactly do you propose should get all this money of which you speak? Are they not entitled to the fruits of their labors? There is very little money in it except for the highest tier artist. That comes from touring and sponsorship deals, and not actually from the records they made, given that you all get the product for peanuts now, if anything. And they are not just Beyoncé as an individual, for example, they are small industries unto themselves, who create jobs and flow money into the economy. They are also extremely charitable and give a lot back to the community.

People love to dismiss the entertainment business as a frivoulos waste, which is a shame. It's a multi billion dollar industry that keeps millions of people employed, and our lives would be a lot greyer indeed without it. It chronicles our lives and serves as a record of culture and history.

The qualities it takes to be successful are qualities that anyone would like to see in their children. And it's not an easy path. My hat is off to anyone that can make it and survive.

Show biz is a disgusting biz.

Who do I think should get all the money pop stars get? Nobody. I am all for modesty.
I would rather have my child try and become a nurse or teacher, which are jobs that actually help society and are full of responsibility. And they should be paid and admired accordingly.

I don't like the focus on stardom that is so common among young people today.

Why are people in this thread constantly putting Beyonce and Miley in the same sentence? How are they even almost similar?

The culture had long rotten before those were born. People like to romanticize about how pure and honest we were in year gone by but in reality things weren't that great. For example, in the 1790s an average American over fifteen years old drank just under six gallons of absolute alcohol each year. (Absolute alcohol is Ethyl alcohol containing no more than 1 percent water which is 200 proof. Think a stronger Everclear alcohol for comparison.) That represented some thirty-four gallons of beer and cider (about 3.4 gallons of absolute alcohol), slightly over five gallons of distilled liquors (2.3 gallons of absolute alcohol), and under a gallon of wine (possibly .10 gallons absolute). Because this is an average figure…, the level of consumption probably was much higher for actual drinkers. But even six gallons is a formidable amount. Now fast forward today ... the comparable modern average is less than 2.9 gallons per capita. That's half the consumption. Here to the good ole days.
