There are millions of Iranians that don't buy into the Islam insanity or at lest they're 'moderate Muslims.' The problem is their government has been the Islam Clerics who try to enforce the medieval superstition. They need to somehow get government back into the hands of sane people that don't allow the Islam superstition to run their lives. Then there's no reason the USA and Iran can't be on friendly terms.

And it's the same reason we need to keep our government OUT of the hands of rightwing fundamentalist Christians, who would be perfectly happy to allow their superstitions run our lives.

What reason(s) were there to have become involved in those places in the first place and what benefit to the US was gained?

It is like a primer on why liberals do not have a clue on how the world really works.

First, the mullahs are not "right wing extremists" they are extremists, their philosophy isn't politically based.

The Iranian, or Persian, as some prefer to be called, that you know are probably either Jewish or were supporters of the Shah, since that is who had to flee Iran when the Shah fell (thank you for that Jimmy Carter).

You think, with all the manifest naivete of a classic leftie, if we are just nicer to them then golly, they'll be nice too!

No. How do you not get this? These people, the mullahs, will never be satisfied with ANY overture from the U.S. and they consistently call for the destruction of the Jewish state of Israel.

Then you go on to more classic leftie rhetoric, you create a moral equivalency between those who call a spade a spade (terrorists & hate mongers) and those not just chanting "death to America" and "death to Israel", but those actively sponsoring terrorists. Iran is the largest state sponsor or terrorism around the world.

It is Iran who sponsors Hezbollah, who murdered 307 UN Peacekeepers (including 241 American servicemen) in Beirut in 1983. The UN troops were there to uphold the truce between the fighting factions in Lebanon. The troops weren't fighting anyone as combatants, they were there to stop the fighting.

Yet you see calling the terrorists who sponsored this terrorism, "terrorists" the same as the murder of 307 people.

Iran is also the major sponsor of Hamas, who not only murders Israeli citizens, but hundreds of Muslims in order to wrest control from those nasty Muslims who actually wanted peace with Israel and the West.

These are the people you think if we are just nicer, well then they'll be nicer too!

The economic sanctions were in place to keep money out of the hands of the mullah leadership so they could not use it to further terrorism.

You then end with the biggest logical fallacy of all for lefties, which is, "golly, if the U.S. can have nukes, why can't everyone else"?

The U.S., for all the names that lefties like to lay on us, has only used nuclear weapons in one situation over 70 years ago. If the U.S. was the awful place that hand wringing lefties make it out to be than we would have nuked Hanoi, Tehran, Pyongyang and another half dozen little poop holes years ago.
I totally rep'ed you on this....

just one small point to make. the leftist suggests the mullahs are 'right wing extremists"
you point out they are just "extremists"

Here is a quote from one of the extremists. and the link to the story where it comes from. I would argue based on what the extremists say that they are LEFT WING EXTREMISTS.

What ISIS Really Wants - The Atlantic

This quote is from Anjem Choudry: (emphasis is mine)
“The problem,†he explained, “is that when places like Saudi Arabia just implement the penal code, and don’t provide the social and economic justice of the Sharia—the whole package—they simply engender hatred toward the Sharia.†That whole package, he said, would include free housing, food, and clothing for all, though of course anyone who wished to enrich himself with work could do so.

I am from Pakistan and I prefer puppet Governments that are secular over the Islamic fanatics.

The Yazidi sex slaves were begging the West to bomb them and end their misery at the hands of the Islamists.

The Islamist groups that enslave women and kill homosexuals in Islamic countries always gets support from the so-called Liberal Left in the West.

I knew an older guy who came here from Iran in the 1920s with two of his brothers. His uncle put them on a ship to come here and be something. They were royalty of the Qajar dynasty and their lives were in peril as any of them could claim the throne. The Pahlavi dynasty took over the country and killed some of his family.
After attending college he served as an officer in WWII and later went to be in the State dept. He was the first American in Hiroshima after WWII and oversaw some of the re-occupation of the city. His daughter recently published a kid's book about her experiences there. The guy had a fortune in Iran but would be killed on sight if trying to claim it.

You make an awful lot of "Left this' and 'Left that' allegations unsupported by facts.

Just what groups that enslave women and kill homosexuals are being supported by the "Liberal Left in the West"? And that means documented sources of support, not baseless allegations.

Browse through this thread alone to see Liberals supporting the pious Iranian Mullahs over the decadent West.

Liberals be like; I hate religious right. But will be the first to suck up to Islam.
