"Sadly, people like former vice president Dick Cheney and many of the other neo-cons who pushed us to war Iraq were not only tragically wrong then, they are wrong now.

I fear that many of my Republican colleagues do not understand that war must be a last resort, not the first resort. It is easy to go to war, it not so easy to comprehend the unintended consequences of that war."

War Should Be the Last Option: Why I Support the Iran Nuclear Deal - Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont

Sanders already had my vote for a number of reasons, but he definitely solidified my support after reading this. He is spot on.

I believe we need a Constitutional Amendment barring the POTUS from deploying combat troops anywhere for longer than 3 months without a formal declaration of war being issued by Congress. Let those so quick to want war sign their name to those wishes and be held responsible for them.

Ah, everyone agrees war is the last resort, so why is BS so special?

The only people saying war is the alternative, are the people who favor the 'deal'.

Obama lost a huge opportunity when the Iranian people rose up and he went silent.

It is sad that dems only offer their way or war. War being their go to strategy when the iranians violate the agreement. Certainly sanctions won't work if reapplied, as the 150 billion puts the iranians in the cat bird seat. It would take decades for any meaningful sanctions to work.

Why endorse someone whose alternate is war????

Obama has taken other creative options off the table and tells us choose the deal or war.

Remember the iranians 'have their fingerprints' all over the middle east. Consider the destruction and unreast they created while on sanctions. Imagine what they will do with 150$$ billion! The iranian deal is like living in a flood zone and buying insurance to cover you in case a satellite lands on your head instead of water damage.

Nukes are a straw dog. Iran is doing just fine with conventional warfare.

Dem/socialists buy into the slippery slope which theorizes the least probable outcome and ignores the present and immediate future needs.

Sanders just set himself up to lose. This guy is either a shill for the DNC to put forward a half hearted sham primary runoff, just a frigging idiot or using dumb assed advisors.

I suspect multiples of the above.

There are so many ways he could have gone on this and came out smelling clean.

This is about the biggest bunch of bull-- I can't believe that you believe what you wrote.

The war-first Neocon ring is an almost exclusively Republican club.

What "creative" options are you referring to that Obama took off the table? References please, I'd love to read more about this...

And what is the Republican alternative to the deal... I heard Dick Cheney bloviating about war. Last I checked he wasn't a Democrat.

If you look at US wars through history, you'll see a lot of Democratic names involved.

Additionally, let's not pretend that Clinton and most leading Democratic leaders weren't beating the drums of war like a rented mule for years before the Iraq invasion.

I like Bernie except for the bolded. He just can't seem to place the blame everywhere it belongs. It's NOT just his Republican colleagues that don't understand this.

For someone who claims to not be a (D) he's about as partisan as they come.

sanders is a bought and paid for globaist socialist, and a major idiot

best option....INCREASE to sanctions...strangle the terrorist supporting country

what has Iran done to have sanctions lifted???...
have they freed the hostigaes...nope
have the sponsored terrorism with hanas, hebsolua (sp?), or yemen....yes

nearly all their middleeast neighbors want the santions INCREASED or kept

its typical of the fascist liberals to be pushing this deal...just like with amnesty, liberals want to REWARD illegal actions

We'll just pretend that the 9/11 attacks shouldn't have changed who/what we considered the most imminent threat to the US even though the administration at the time rarely if ever missed an opportunity to tell us Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11, eh?
