I truly think this can have far reaching consequences for decades to come that we can't even envision. Muslims in the US have almost been forced to assimilate to a certain degree bc they are such a small portion of the population. But adding tens or hundreds of thousands of the most uneducated, unskilled people in the entire world - especially coming from ideals and cultures that are in direct contrast to the values of western culture - is recipe for disaster. Just look at the Muslim enclaves in Europe and that's a microcosm of what can occur for multiple generations to come.

At the same time, as a world leader, we can't turn our backs on millions of people fleeing for their lives. We provide billions in aid to countries like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, etc. all of whom are not taking any refugees. Why not make foreign aid contingent on helping solve this crisis? Even if we have to pay more - which as a conservative pains me - it's a better solution than bringing these people to the US. Basically, pay other people to deal with the problem.

Also, a longer term structural solution needs to be addressed on a global basis. These won't stop with a million refugees from Syria. This will soon balloon into tens of millions of migrants and refugees from around the globe, including the worst of the ME countries and Africa.

There is no long term structual solution other than border enforcement. They will always want to come. But they won't if they know they won't get in. It's that simple.

The solution is to crush isis and assad and send the refugees back to their homelands

I agree that border enforcement is priority number 1. That's why I don't support bringing any here - it just encourages a never ending migration.

I don't know if it's as simple as crushing Assad. Look what happened to Iraq when Saddam was taken out of power. Or Libya when kaddafhi was removed. Sometimes it takes animals to govern an animal kingdom. And now that Russia is setting up camp to support Assad, it creates an entire other world of problems.

YES! The cause is ISIS, and the effect is refugees fleeing. Europe wants to deal with the symptoms but not the problem. Obama does not want to get his hands dirty either. The next president will have a big mess on their hands.

If the options are:

1. Accept refugees, or
2. Go to war

I'll take 1. The money and lives we would spend in war could be used to assimilate the refugees into American life.
