Americans have been spied on since the American communist spies gave the Soviet Union the secret of the atomic bomb in 1948.

Every country has its traitors and fifth columnists.

Add terrorism, and the outcome is predictable.

National security must be balanced against personal privacy and freedom.

During WW II, there were all kinds of restrictions on civil liberties as the nation mobilized to fight the war.

I would have more respect for Snowden if he had not fled.

There is such a thing as principled civil disobedience, but it involves accepting the consequences of your acts (See Thoreau: "An Essay on Civil Disobedience").

We have forgotten this.

Protesters who violate the law by blocking traffic, etc., are arrested and then immediately released.

They should pay for preventing ordinary people from going about their daily business and reimburse the taxpayers who have to pay overtime to the police.

Your right and I bet they love this guy though. He's a victim in their eyes..

They should hang him..

You are absolutely wrong on the first point. You should have said this......
  • National security concerns must not violate the rights and privileges granted by the US Constitution.
Anything else is just an excuse to violate people's rights.

I do agree with you on the second point. People often forget the Constitution when pushing their agenda.

One does not take an oath to hide illegal actions of the state.

What he did was give away to the world (enemies included) much of Americas secrets and operational infrastructure.
I dont appreciate his actions and wonder how many American lives have been lost as a consequence of his actions.
If he is so proud of his actions why does he not come home and defend his actions rather than hide out in Russia.
I think the guy is a traitor and sometimes wonder how much the Russians paid him to give away all those secrets.
As for his outing the NSA? Did you really think the NSA wasnt spying if needed on any one in the world and do you think they arent still as active as they ever were?

Snowdens days in Russia are numbered. As soon as Putin can't embarrass Obama anymore, he will be ejected. Or once Obama is out of office, the same holds true.

So once he's back, he should be shot.

He will likely be openly welcomed back then.

Sanders (who will beat Hillary) has already said he supports Snowden over the governments actions.
