If anything, church and state have been getting much more separated lately. Religious monuments on public space are coming down, prayer in school (or during school functions like sporting events) have been eliminated, and wearing religious items like shirts and crosses are also being banned in schools, etc.

There will never be a Theocracy in this country. I've never heard a religious person say that's what they want -- they may think theres no big deal with something like prayer in school, but that's about the extent of it.

I bet people would be offended if it were any other religion.
The organization was formed almost 70 years ago as an " anti- Catholic" organization. Seems they evolved and focus on separation of church and state.

The leader was interviewed on Fox last week or maybe it was CNN. He strongly advocated for politicians and media to cease using religion to divide the country.

Catholic Charities is the largest conduit between federal/ state money and grass roots charity. The majority of funding is sourced via government grants. Most major charities rely on government funding.

Let's see the dowry!

Wait for the Persians to attack!

Left bank or right bank, it's all about banking.

Global tax to pay the usury.

I would rather have government lose money than sell itself to religious interest groups at the expense of a basic foundation of the USA: separation of religion and government.

Knowing you, I wouldn't be surprised if you would have screamed your lungs out if this event were to take place but with the difference that it was a Muslim religious leader speaking. You hypocrites are the reason why the need for separation of religion and government cannot be overstated.

Next thing you know, the Pope will announce that God is gay.

No dowry needed . . . "Community Property".

Well. Maybe the thread title should be "Why is the Pope's speech offensive to Christians"?

They are the ones wanting him to go home.

Only because the Imperial Roman Catholic Church sold out Italians and Jews and the rest of the World to Mussolini.

Just because some of these norms are coming down doesn't necessarily mean that we are further seperating the two. Look how hard fought it was to legalize gay marriage. Having to fight that hard for that right isn't a fight against reasonable people. The government shutdown threats over planned parenthood is another example. Just because these things are coming down doesn't mean that a religious expectations are becoming more reasonable. It means that the other side of the equation has been fighting back.

I agree, most religious folks don't want that. But the powers that be seldom do what most people want. Everyone with half a brain knows its a bad idea to mix the two. But the people who actually run the show would find a theocracy rather convenient.
