Looks like a duck, walks like a duck and sounds like a duck!!!! That picture looks like it could be a bomb to me. And as said in the OP, if some kid is going to get in trouble for making a poptart look like a gun or a hand signal of a gun then some muslim can sure as hell get in trouble for making a boxed clock that sure looks like it could be a bomb to me.
Nobody has ever been shot by a pop tart or a finger but plenty have been killed by muslim terrorist kids with similar looking "bombs" strapped to them. I think they did the right thing. Forget about this PC crap and take him away for questioning. If it is just an innocent homemade clock in a box then all will be good. No problems for him. He may come out a bit educated and understand that we are under attack by muslims of ALL AGES so one shouldn't make some bomb looking like contraption and bring it into school.
Looks like some circuitry with absolutely nothing that could possibly be an explosive.
Seriously. If you are a grown up and think that a bomb looks like the hyped up Hollywood version, I'm not really sure what to tell you. If you've made it into your adult life thinking bombs really have a digital clock attached with a countdown and that isn't an invention to make scenes in film more compelling then there's not much that can help you.
If they really thought it was a bomb, why did they not evacuate the school? Call in the big guns like SWAT or the bomb squad? Detonate the device?

Cause they went into their CSI mode with the teacher hearing it beep but not seeing it until the end of the class then she carries it to show some others who then show it to the cops who then leave it on a desk while they question Mohamad ....they no more thought this thing was dangerous than I think elephants can fly.
They were into busting his chops in as overt an example of bigotry in action as ever witnessed.

What if it was a bomb and it blew up. I'm almost certain you'd be criticizing they did not do more. So far, the only evidence we have of people using the kids name as indication of something is people from people like you screaming bias, just because of the kids name. If his name was John, you would not have this reaction and I'm almost postive the school would react the same way if faced with the same situation.
As a teacher at a school that had a pipe bomb go off in a restroom about 20 years ago (no injuries, the building had been evacuated and the police robot detonated it) I would not want anything which appears to be a bomb laughed off.
Having said that, an arrest was probably over the top.
This is an ad promoting school uniforms and metal detectors but it makes a point. Play it on mute if you wish so you don't hear the huckster:

Did you miss the point of his post? If they thought it had even the slightest potential to be a bomb, why didn't they take precautions? Why did they let several teachers, administrators, and police officers play around with it while questioning this kid? If there was even the *smallest* chance that it was a real bomb, why didn't they immediately evacuate and call in the proper authorities?
