A lab at West Virginia University discovered the problem with the Volkwagons when they noticed it wasn't meeting the same standards that the BMW they were testing was.

That's not the way it works. A high enough level of oxygen will kill you.

Perhaps people will begin to comprehend that a fractional difference in emissions output is not that big a deal – especially when the “affected” vehicle actually uses less fuel – which (think about it) means it produces a lesser volume of total exhaust gasses.
That higher MPG almost becomes irrelevant when comparing emissions to gas becsue it's that much higher.

Perhaps people will ask why it is that American buyers are denied access to 60 MPG diesel cars that are commonly available in western Europe, where the air seems to be quite breathable and people are not walking around wearing surgical masks or hooked up to oxygen tanks… .
The article I read said the air quality in urban areas are not decreasing as they should be.

This is all besides the point. The law is the law, if the law is bad you change it. VW cheated it.

The Mushroom Cloud Expands - EPautos
Europeans use trains and bicycles more than cars, which accounts for lower emissions.

Volkwagen's unethical emissions scam is partly the government's fault
