Petraeus accuses Putin of rebuilding Russian Empire - CNNPolitics.com

I think by supporting the Syrian "moderates" and the Islamic State against the Baathist government, that we have created the Chernobyl.

The United States needs to stop putting our fingers on the scales of power in foreign countries PERIOD. Let the chips fall where they fall organically and we'll deal with whomever emerges victorious.

Hey I'm with you on that but then again we now have open doors inviting them to bring it here.

Retired Gen. David Petraeus, testifying before the Senate Armed Service Committee, also recommended that the U.S. establish safe zones for Sunnis inside Syria and potentially put American boots on the ground in Iraq to stop the spread of ISIS.

Don't get me wrong: I agree. And that may be a first for you and I to agree on... anything.

But what you and I want is pretty much irrelevant. Fact is that war is America's national pass-time. Our economy relies on it from multiple angles. Being pro-war is so deeply ingrained in our culture that it's seen as essentially the same thing as 'freedom' and 'patriotism'.

It's only a matter of time til our next ill-conceived exercise in "boots on the ground". We're ALREADY in the early stages of what could turn into multiple proxy wars with Russia (Cold War II, anybody?)... and I see no credible movement within either political party what would even attempt to steer us elsewhere.

So while I don't support this pro-war stupidity... I AM willing to make money off it. That's fundamental to who we are as Americans.

I agree. Our government creates many of our problems and then creates more by "fixing" them.
