The pro-democracy fighters have been overshadowed and marginalized by foreign funded ISIS who have a seeming endless supply of recruits. Any hopes of pro-democracy forces taking down the Assad regime and keeping the country stable are long gone - no matter what the US did or didn't do or should have done over the past 3 years. This isn't about "us". At this stage our best hope for defeating ISIS is with Assad.
Too many outside parties are now involved. The major involved powers need to get together and create a real plan for what the goal is and how it will be accomplished. A coalition needs to be formed and a major force put together in order to restore sanity to that region. Russia could be part of the solution if we can come to an agreement on the role of Assad in Syrias future. It would be best if he stepped down, but Russia supports him. Everyone hates ISIS, at the very least we can work together on that. Maybe key Assad regime members could be granted roles in a new Syrian government and Assad could get a cushy retirement in exile for his voluntarily stepping down, If that issue could be resolved then the rest of the mad men in Syria could be removed by force. The real victims of all this are the poor everyday people of Syria. I cant imagine what its like in a place like Allepo, its been several years under the ISIS government there.
Maybe we should just tell Russia that Syria is their baby and to do whatever it takes to stabilize it. I don't care if it's Communist or Democratic, as long as it's not ISIS.
We have 17 more months of the current idiot in office who will do nothing so it's too late anyway. It's probably time for America to cede control of the Mid East to someone else and just get out of there.
And give Israel some Minuteman III missiles and tell everyone they have them.
Are you okay with Putin backing al-Assad and taking out ISIS in Syria? Should Israel be worried?
Yes to the first part, Assad is part of the legitimate government of Syria. And if Russia wants to help take out the terrorist threat in Syria (funded, armed and trained by the Obama administration BTW), that's fine. Though I question why any Russian or American should fight and die for the sake of the people of the ME.

al-Assad has not done anything to the US to be considered our enemy but according to our government ISIS is a grave threat to the US and is our enemy. So I have no problem with Putin taking out our enemy.
