I'm 46 and don't remember this much favorable press coverage of a Pope. It's more than the amount of coverage, it's also the words being used by reporters in their coverage of the Pope. Is this favorable coverage because all these reporters overnight became devout Catholics, or is it their leftist ideology being parroted back to them by this Pope for the first time in history? I'm Catholic and contrary to what some non-Catholics believe, we don't all blindly obey every word of the Pope. Blind loyalty to the Pope led to wars, assassination, and horrible crimes. The Pope, besides being the head of the Catholic Church, is also a head of state. I believe what we have is possibly the most political Pope in many years. I agree with him on some things like priest living more thrifty and going after those who committed child molestation and those who protected them. Those were internal things that have hurt the Catholic church with the faithful. These other pronouncements seem to be political pandering to the press and leftist. Don't know why he would be pandering to them since these two groups would never convert to the Catholic church, some wouldn't even set foot in a church except for wedding, funeral, or as part of a news report.

It's called celebrity gushing. This is one of the things the MSM does do these days without abandon. Doesn't matter who it is as long as they have celebrity status.
I do seem to recall John Paul II being very, very popular as well. Also quite political.
Oh, gawd yes, the Polish Pope who fought communism and help to bring Poland in the membership of democratic nations. The press couldn't get enough of that story. Hell even commie PBS has an opus to his papacy.
Maybe it's because he seems like a decent human being unlike the previous pope?
Imagine that...
Many of the more recent popes were also decent human beings. Consider them for the time they served and the time they were raised. It is within the Pope 's authority to make changes within the church regarding homosexuals. The church should also change to allow priest and nuns to marry outside of a marriage to God and church. However, what I'd like to know is why this sudden favorable coverage from a press that once held scorn towards the Catholic Church?
He's a socialist pope. He's pretty political as well..pro climate change, pro gay people, etc.
I just love the media bias this that and the other when you consider the fact that Pope John Paul II was such a media darling for being the exact opposite of Francis; the hard core anti-communist and restorer of Catholic conservatism. What people just don't freaking get or understand is that both Pope's made good copy. They did and said things that were exceptionally newsworthy and the media loves nothing better than a story that writes itself and they these Pope's wrote some great stories.
