It looks like Boehner's resignation assures that there will be no government shutdown on Oct 1st.
"It’s not gonna happen,” added Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.) about the prospects of a government shutdown. “No. The speaker met with us [Thursday] and told us we will vote for a clean continuing resolution.”

This is just silly. The leadership of the Republican Party says there will be no shut down of the government. Listen up T Baggers. It isn't going to happen. Better yet. Sit down and shut up.
"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Thursday afternoon is expected to set up his end-game to avoid a politically disastrous lapse in government funding. He will likely make his move immediately after an attempt to defund Planned Parenthood fails in the face of Democratic opposition, according to sources briefed on his plans."
What's amusing about his strategy is that it incorporates a way to box out Cruz from attempting a filibuster. But Cruz is hinting that he has a strategy to counter McConnell's move.
Pass the popcorn.
That would be the Mitch McConnell that Rand Paul helped to get re-elected? (you don't have to answer)
As another poster here noted, the public punished the republicans for the last shutdown by electing an ever larger majority in the house , a majority in the senate and a majority of governorships.
I think we can infer that the majority of the public doesn't really give a rats rectum about government shutdowns, no matter the hue and cry from those who entirely benefit from government largess. I have never met anyone who whined about any of the last shutdowns.
But think, the NSA won't be snooping on you while the shutdown is going on. Let the shutdown begin!!
Looks like his fellow Republicans in the Senate have had about enough of Cruz.
On Monday night, Cruz’s colleagues ignored his attempt to disrupt Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s efforts to fund the government without attacking Planned Parenthood.
"Republicans have grown tired of Cruz pushing proposals that he knows McConnell and other Republicans will never back, like defunding Planned Parenthood in a spending bill, then criticizing McConnell for not taking up the plan even as he uses the fight to bolster his presidential campaign as Washington's consummate outsider."
I remember the last shutdown we had wasn't it Republicans complaining about how public parks were shutdown and tourist attractions like the Washington monument were shut down. How about that nice photo op with ol crazy eyes herself bachman. I hope Cruz gets shunned and reduced to the status McCarthy got at the end. Even my friend who likes trump can see Cruz is an arrogant douche.
That's exactly right! Anyone who actually wants to govern has no business in the Republican Party.
It is sad what has happened to a once great political party, that now is made up of members who think it's "just fine if the federal government shut down for a very long period of time." Who cares if contractors can't get paid and workers can't pay their bills.
Fortunately, even during a shutdown, national security, public safety, Social Security, the State Dept, Air traffic control, emergency medical care, border patrol, federal prisons, most law enforcement, emergency and disaster assistance, anyone overseeing the banking system, operating the power grid, and guarding federal property, won't be affected.
So what exactly is the problem?
