Russia didn't like the replacement of power in Ukraine when Vikto Yanukovych was removed, they did not want to see Ukraine taking any steps to associate with the EU.
Who was being massacred in Crimea?
No, they did not like it, like USA did not like the replacement of power in Cuba, and initiated an invasion.
Thanks God, the Russians took control of Crimea so no body was massacred.
You must have posted the wrong article, where does he indicate that a democracy can't exist under a Muslim?
You left out that he was speaking to the UN, not the US but if you're tossing around blame you left a few people out of your title like Rumsfeld, Cheney and Bush.
I guess anihilating a few million of his own people passes as stability, give us credit for helping ISIS on their way, supporting Assad then not supporting Assad but this is a ridiculous artilce. Why were we to blame for a Syrian civil war that we stayed out of for the most part, or maybe we should have invaded yet another country.
Tough to take Putin seriously when he was responsile for invading 3 countries in the last few years in an attempt to annex them. He's criticizing the US now, where have his military forces been for the last 2 years, maybe he should have went to Syria instead of invading Ukraine.
The US oil companies, along with our allies in Saudi Arabia, Qatar & Kuwait wanted to build an oil/gas pipeline through Iraq, Saudi Arabia, into Syria and into Europe via Turkey. This would be worth trillions to the corporations and oil monarchs. It would also cut off Russia's main export and revenue stream, oil/gas to Europe. Naturally Russia did everything in their power to endear themselves to Assad and he ended up saying "no" the the US/Saudi/Qatar pipeline and instead allowed Russia to build some pipelines. Syria. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qatar-Turkey_pipeline
It's important to understand that backdrop, to understand what is going on in Syria today. Point blank, we're now trying to topple Assad and replace him with a more Saudi friendly government. To say we have mostly stayed out of this is inaccurate.
While all of this pipeline jockeying was going on, Assad had ISIS in his country. He also had Al Queda in his country, as well as the Muslim Brotherhood and other assorted extremist groups. Assad asked the West for help in defeating the terrorists and the West, led by the US, refused to help him. Instead we armed, trained & provided air support for ISIS, then presented them to the public as a legitimate entity trying to topple a horrible dictator in a civil war. We even went to far as to create a story about him gassing "his own people" to gin up support to topple him. France began bombings today and pledged to help battle ISIS in Syria, but cautioned it was all predicated on deposing Assad.
This is present day, not 30-60 years ago, the OP is the claiming Syria is a Christian democracy. Seems like our Christian government has quite the history
You missed the point. Japan was just an example . You can't condemn the Russian for supporting their Allies, who do bad things, when we supported our Allies, who also did bad things. And we aren't in any position to judge any one else, given our record. Today, or 20-30 years ago, its the same mentality. Its OK if we do it, but not OK if Putin or Russia do it.
The old excuse of "this is the present day" is only good if your speaking of 100 years ago, or more. Does not apply to the span of ones lifetime.
It also has nothing to do with loving Russians or Loving "Putin." Like it or not, Putin is a very intelligent Leader, and a good Military Man. We need to remember that.
Syria used nerve gas on it's citizens, according to Putin that is the sign of a good leader that promotes democratic stability.
Through Obama's efforts Syria disposed of it's nerve gas supplies (WMD?) peacefully through negotiations, Bush could have done the same.
It was the US backed rebels using the sarin nerve gas, supplied by the Saudis. All Obama wants is a Saudi friendly government after they topple Assad so his buddies in big oil can have their pipeline.
If right-wingers love Putin so much, why don't they move to Russia like the traitors they are?
Oh please. He's right, and your little boy king has been WRONG, very, very wrong, and continues to be very, very wrong.
And yes, let me save you the pounding on your keyboard: Bush should never have gone there as well.
Alright? We should not have gone over there.
For what? To make countries trade in dollars? For oil? Didn't all the libbies scream about 'no blood for oil' back in the 90s? Now they're okay with it?
So we can have these fricken lunatics come here? What good is it all if Europe and the US get swarmed by these piles of horse excrement?
Too bad if your 'chosen one' is a failure. The traitor is that clown who sits in the WH.

I don't like Putin. I know what he is. He is old world KGB, hard line communist. He is the very definition of what we have stood against for decades. That said, he does manage to upstage Obama at every turn. It's getting a bit sad to watch.
Merkel, a former scientist who prides herself on her rationality, is known for her ability to methodically analyze situations: “drawing comparisons, running scenarios, weighing risks, anticipating reactions, and then, even after making a decision, letting it sit for a while before acting,” writes Packer.
This ability to think before acting served her well with Putin. During 2007 negotiations between the leaders over energy supplies at Putin’s residence in Sochi, Russia, the Russian president allowed his dog to approach Merkel, who has been frightened of dogs since being bitten by one. As Merkel froze in terror, and reporters watched in horror, Putin stood by, bemused, refusing to call off the animal.
Merkel turned the moment into an opportunity to gain deeper insight into Putin’s character—while also calling him at his own game. “I understand why he has to do this—to prove he’s a man,” she told reporters afterwards. “He’s afraid of his own weakness. Russia has nothing, no successful politics or economy. All they have is this.”
Merkel is about the last person I would be using to prove any point. Look at what that hag has done to Germany. The Germans can't wait for her to get out of office.
"Oh, come on over, "refugees", by the boat and bus and train loads. NO. Problem!"
And now school girls in Germany are being told to cover up so as not to 'bother' the poor little Mussies.
Merkel is useless.
