For all the moaning and groaning about President Obama in this forum, the bigger problem is the Congress. After all, Obama's approval rating is now about where Reagan's was at the same point in their presidencies -- above 45%. While Congress's approval rating -- with a Republican controlled Senate and House Of Representatives -- is about 14%.

I'm concerned most with the more childish branch of the Congress -- the House Of Representatives. At least the Senate is honest about who controls procedures -- the Majority Leader; in other words, the leader of the party with the most seats in the Senate.

But on the House side, the majority leader is called the Speaker Of The House. Yet that office does not speak for the House Of Representatives. Instead of being called the Speaker Of The House, right now it ought to be called the Speaker Of House Republicans.

This may seem like semantics, but I think it is more than that.

So my questions are:
1. Should the entire structure of the House (especially) and Senate be restructured (I cannot see that it would require a Constitutional amendment)?
2. In terms of salaries and other benefits, how should Congress be restructured?

Throw the bums out! All of them.

People should be allowed ONE six year term at local, state, fed level. Notice that allows progression but not 20 years for a pension.

Senators and Reps get $50k a year. It's called public SERVICE, not get rich quick. Oh, no free medical, no free insider stock trading. Pres. gets $100k - but doesn't have to pay for meals at the White House. Can you imagine we make our pres pay for meals. It's not like he can run out to Winn Dixie. Though I would. I'd be like Ok - next state dinner it's burgers and beer!

And if you get caught with a hooker, intern, young boy, whatever... You're fired!

They should get rid of the political parties divisions and majority/minority leaders. The Speaker should be voted on by all members, not just the majority. Committees should be chosen by lottery among those having a desire to serve on those committees. Bills should not be introduced at the discretion of the majority party. Rather, each member should be able to propose a bill, one at a time until all members have had a chance then start over. All members of Congress should be in the chambers while Congress is in session. All lobbiests admitted into the Capitol must be sponsored by a member of Congress and a list of who is sponsoring who will be made public. All bills will be limited to 10 pages. Pay should be proportional to the average American income, perhaps two times. When our wages go up, theirs go up.

Yes, that has been a concern of mine, as well.

Default Fixing Congress

That would require fixing the American public first.

After all, congress merely represents the current viewpoint of the majority of the people.

Dysfunction? What dysfunction?

Pay of $100,000/year.

They must have Medicare, ObamaCare or a health insurance policy just like the rest of us idiots who elect the same same to office year after year always getting the same results we whine about.

For retirement it's social security at full retirement age just like us worthless underlings.

The primary job of a Senator or Congressman is fund raising for themselves and their party.
