In 2001, then state senator and University of Chicago law lecturer, Barack Obama, sat down for a public radio interview. At the time, he did not anticipate a near-term run for the presidency. He spoke candidly and deliberately about how to “break free” of Constitutional constraints against redistribution to provide “economic justice.” In the course of his interview, Obama laid out the electoral strategy of cobbling together the “power coalitions” that have been the hallmark of his 2012 re-election campaign.

a very eye opening interview, if you haven't heard it or read the transcript.

US Constitution.....
The only Document that tells the government what it can not do against its people. If you plan on ADDING something let it be to expand liberty.

If your going to remove a amendment let it be the 16th.

Or add term limits to replace that one :-)

Is that only because we want to drastically cut spending or what is your proposal to replace the income tax?

Why do we want corruption in the state legislature to effect Washington? Isn't corruption due to special interests a problem in politics, and wouldn't this just create more?

there would be LESS money in politics if we went back to having the states send their senators to congress, and there would actually be LESS corruption, and the states interests would again be properly represented.

Perhaps but it was created to prevent localized spoils systems that were fairly common with the legislature appointed senators too. That is why the populists of the 1900's pushed for that amendment to give people the ability to vote and limit power of these special interests on the state level.

and how has that worked out for us in the intervening years? there is MORE special interests in congress than ever before, along with far more money, and far more corruption. the two houses of congress were designed to fight each other in the long run, with the peoples house, the house of representatives, and the states house, the senate, only getting together when the objectives of both matched each other.

we dont need the 17th amendment, the peoples house is the counter balance to the senate,as is the president by the way. as it is now, the states are the ones getting screwed.

I notice over many posts that there are so many things going on in this country that you don't like. So why not just leave?

So you like that back room version of politics better than something approaching democracy.
