Offer healthcare, childcare, paid time off for maternity, three or four weeks of vacation, profit sharing, etc....show us how it can be done!

It should bring up the quality of life, lower violence and give those residents the help that they need.
Of course what I am about to say is going to go in one ear and out the other, but, getting out of poverty starts at home, with education, family values, teaching kids they can do anything they want and yes, start with the liberal business owners. Let them see how well offering good jobs to hard workers turns out.

We have always had poverty, always will for many reasaons, and if anyone really thinks poverty in America can compare with other countries they need to do more traveling, but if some manage to work their way out, it can be done: Here are a few examples: Ronald Reagan; Tom Sowell, Colin Powel, Ben Carson and to some degree Bill Clinton.

Health Care is not free. We would simply have Medicare cover everybody.
You lost me when you said "if we are to become more civilized" like Europe...etc. Are you kidding? I go to Europe 12 to 15 times a year for business....I have been doing that for quite a few years....so I think I know something about how things over there are going. Believe me, in my opinion, the US is FAR more civilized than Europe. The economy in countries like Spain, Greece, France and Portugal is struggling. I am so tired of people somehow thinking that just because Europe has a longer social history, it is somehow more correct about how to do things.

Also, how would everybody in the US being covered by Medicare be paid for? Unless it is paid for by more taxes, I see no way for that to happen.

Why would that "go in one ear and out the other"? Poverty also begins at home.

Lefties fail to realize that wealth is CREATED, not TAKEN or GIVEN. I was talking with a young man today who started out earning $18,000 a year with a large company and today at 33 earns in excess of $150,000. Not everyone can achieve this, but the great thing about America is that it's possible.

No...he didn't attend college.

All this talk about lefties, righties, liberals this and that - it makes my head hurt. I would LOVE to see both Republican and Democrat parties totally banned in the next election, and let people join any group that they feel supports their interest the best. Can you imagine it? People would have to state what they are for and against - no party to identify with. On top of everything else, you couldn't stick a label on people and then just run off at the mouth and say they are x, y, and z because of that label. You'd have to start looking at people as individuals.

I guess I just get riled because I'll make a statement and instantly I'm liberal in everything. Well, sorry to bust your bubble. I'm liberal when it comes to abortion and gay rights. I'm conservative when it comes to illegals and drugs. I support gun rights but still acknowledge that something has to be done about the number of people being killed by guns every day in this country. So I don't fit in either party and I'm not 100% liberal or 100% conservative. And you know what? I'd be willing to bet that except for extremists at each end who froth at the mouth when they start laying out all those labels they love so much, that the majority of Americans are like me.

We just want the country to work together and make things better for the people living here. We want something done about jobs, education, ridiculous airline baggage fees, and out-of-control housing costs. I don't like the welfare fraud, but I'd like to see Congressmen do a day's work for a day's pay, too. I think it can be agreed that they're the biggest welfare cheats around for doing nothing for the amount of money they get, with few exceptions. I just want us to be a united nation again, and quit having to fight labels that are just making us fight with each other so our so-called leaders can get away with murder.

You got it backwards. It's those on the left who are constantly admonishing the right for not doing enough to help the poor, yet conservatives give much moor to charity than liberals do. The left just wants to feel good by claiming they care about the poor, but when judging by their cumulative actions, they actually don't.
