A friend once told me in his travels abroad years ago comrades that there is no incentive to work long hours [overtime] say a taxi driver paid by the state...one day he hauls 50 people around on his shift next day 100 he still gets paid the same ... unless you pull out some American cigarettes, blue jeans or chocolates they will go to the gates of hell its self its better than money.

I thought it was an appropriate response. Every time someone hints at a liveable wage OR points out that the middle class basically hasn't had a raise in 15 years - they are accused of being on welfare, being a moocher, or being a high school drop out.

That is the mentality.

The leadership of some unions have, and do, do this. But that is because their membership has let them. I'm contending with this within my own local. We cannot be complacent. They are still liable to us. This is why the Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act was passed in 1959. We need to be holding our union officials just as accountable as we hold our politicians. You could argue that democracy within your local union has more tangible effects on your daily life than state or national level politics.

Simply put, the organized need to get REorganized.

Stop importing foreign labor by the tens of millions and wages will increase.

This is a very smug post OP.

A millennial myself, I see myself as a social liberal and fiscally pragmatic. That means that public investment ought to be used to facilitate growth where it makes sense (public transportation/education). Real capitalism has been dead for a long time and we live in an era of privatized gains and socialized losses which isn't fair to the common person. I appreciate Democrats pointing out the issue, but their solutions are often cumbersome and expensive.

Our biggest problem in university education is federal student loans. They were well intended but have had the affect of inflating college tuition (especially GradPLUS loans), many universities see their student as blank checks from the federal government. Since those loans aren't dischargeable in bankruptcy but will approve anybody, it's easy to see why these student loans, while well intentioned, have been a huge culprit in the problem.

If you're young and not liberal, you have no heart.

If you're old and not conservative, you have no brains.

That's the true dichotomy of every democracy. The only question is how long one remains young...

Yep.. every time the government legislates to "help" the poor --> Boom --> Bust ... to the point where middle class who once could afford it no longer can. The result is always more poor people. I've seen it over and over.

Invest the money on our people, not foreigners and nonsense spending on military, wars, etc.! Millenials are sick and tired of having huge student loan debts while some may not find jobs because it's crappy low wages with some even no benefits, high cost of living, competition and expensive homes/rents, expensive daycares, etc. making life for non-rich people difficult. We pay already high taxes but barely get anything back from them unlike in Europe!!!! Capitalism will eventually die out hopefully...

Cut foreign & military aid, invest on us!!
Honestly, Millennials are idiots. I have never encountered a larger body of morons in my life. Which is only made worse by their belief in their own superiority.

The good news is, they'll eventually grow up, and they'll become exactly the types of people they currently despise.

As I used to tell my nephew, how much different are you today compared to five years ago? And how much different will you be five years from now, compared to today?

The problem with millennials, is that they honestly believe that they'll stay basically the same as they are now, until they die. They refuse to recognize that as they get older, they will completely change. When you have been coddled your whole life by your parents and by the government, it is easy to be an idealist/socialist. When you get into the real world, everything will change.

The good news is, someday you'll be old, and the younger generations will be the ones looking forward to your death.

To put it in better perspective, imagine a world where only 18-25 year olds were allowed to vote. Can you imagine how idiotic such a world would become?

In my view, a person isn't even a real person until they are at least 30 years old. If you had $100 million dollars, and you were about to die, and you had to leave that money to your child. At what age would you give your child "full access" to that money? Do you think handing an 18-year old $100 million would be a good idea?

No, because they are morons. Whoever thought it was a good idea to give these naive, ignorant, arrogant, entitled brats a right to vote, needs to be shot.

We really need to get rid of public-education and ease the child labor laws. The public-education system produces nothing but degenerate "youth-culture". Take these kids out of idiotic age-segregated schools, put them into a more natural environment where they are around people of all ages, and put them to work, doing something; And you'll sort their bad attitudes out pretty quick.

Not always true; some of the jobs, in food-production/processing, transportation, utilities and the like, will have to stay, but over time, a portion of the manufacturing will continue to gravitate to lower-wage, and less-regulation-obsessed economies.

And it's also worth noting that pressures for regulation and a "safety net" will grow in those nations as prosperity and its companion, democracy, continue to evolve; however, that process will require a longer time frame.

This is the critical point which too many of the more-simplistic within Trump's coalition fail to acknowledge.
