Was worth 6.4 million dollars either alive OR dead?

Seriously now, yes, he died while in the care (or lack thereof) of the Police. No trial has happened, no evidence of any wrongdoing has been presented or judged by anyone of legal authority so what gives?

I know, I know, it's supposed to save the city money IF they're found culpable later on but 6.4 MILLION DOLLARS for someone who'd likely never see a fraction of that in his whole life unless he hit the lottery. Looks like his parents have though (hit the lottery).

I've got to say if I were a taxpayer in that city I'd have to think long and hard about my next tax bill...

The board, headed by the Mayor decided that was fair.

Even if he did commit a crime, which I'm not denying, he shouldn't have died in police custody. It's a fair settlement.

Would you be okay paying a portion of it? Is it really that fair?

Through taxes, sure. The family deserves a settlement.

Here's the thing, every resident of Maryland will be paying it through higher insurance rates for local governments.

Less of a load for each person then. 6 million dollars isn't a lot of money in the scheme of things, especially with a tax base as large as the entire state of Maryland.

But why should the residents of the entire State be penalized?

You do know the Gray family has a history of receiving annuitized settlements (lead paint) and then selling them for a fraction of the total value.

Because the family needs a settlement?? As a tax payer you'll probably only pay $5 or so towards the 6 million. You spend more on a daily basis with other taxes and bills.
