What percentage of these potheads are also on psychiatric medication? 50%? Higher?

Since pot has been legalized here in WA, I've noticed that a good amount of the people that I know that used to occasionally smoke it have become major stoners. Now that they can literally go to a store and buy it for less than it was when it was illegal, they spend a lot more time getting high.

Of course someone will be quick to say but but but booze is worse. I'm not arguing that it isn't. I'm just pointing out that a lot of the pot smokers I know are completely addicted to the stuff now because of how easy and cheap it is to get. Also, as someone that used to smoke a lot of dope, I will say that pot is WAY easier to abuse than alcohol. This is simply because one can literally smoke it from the time they get up until the time they go to bed and still be a functioning member of society. I've always thought that the fact that it isn't as bad as drinking actually makes it worse for society because it's so easy to abuse.

Potheads are high-maintenence friends because they can't have fun without being high. Yes, most of them are "functioning", meaning they can hold a job, oftentimes being high throughout the workday, but they would be a lot more motivated and fun to be around if they weren't mentally addicted to weed. It's the same way with every substance: people begin to rely on it for enjoyment of activities, it's their new bar standard for enjoyment, and they don't realize that they used to have more enjoyment before they discovered the substance. Potheads become obsessed with weed. They study it, grow it, stare at pictures of it on Google Image.

There will always be demand for drugs, no one is forcing anyone to do drugs, those who have no self control can die. This is how natural selection works.

LOL this is so true.

In my pot smoking days, I literally couldn't function without being high. It's easy to get to that place with weed because it's so easy to get away with. I was a functioning drug addict, but it wasn't until I got a big kid job that randomly drug tested that I realized how much my addiction affected my life. One of the first things I noticed was that a lot of my friends weren't really my friends. They were just people that I smoked weed with. I also noticed that I had lost a lot of my best friends because I was "high maintenance," due to my addiction. Breaking the cycle of perpetually being high all day was life changing for me. One thing that came with it was I was also able to ditch my gaming addiction. I became far more active and motivated once weed was removed from my life. I went from being a single out of shape guy that played 5 hours of video games a day to a mountain bike junkie with a girlfriend almost overnight.

And the obsessed thing is spot on. I used to wear things with pot leaves on them. I had magazines about pot smoking. My collection of pieces that I smoked out of was worth thousands. Pot was the center point of most conversations for me.

Obviously not everyone has the same experience with pot as I did, but I can say without any hesitation that most of my friends that still smoke weed are mentally addicted to it, while out of all the people I know that drink, only a few of them have a problem. This is because most the people I know that had issues with drinking got a big wake up. That big wake up call typically never comes with weed, which makes one less likely to seek help or be in denial that they have a problem.
