The power void would be filled by someone handpicked by Washington who would then require massive amounts of security meaning US bases and American boots on the ground in Syria to guard him against ISIS jihadists and local Syrians who would rightly regard him as a western puppet and would be constantly trying to pick him off.
American ground forces in Syria would be a great way to attract vast new numbers of ISIS and jihadist recruits from all over the Middle East lusting for the chance to kill the American infidel invaders and the resulting nightmare would make Iraq look like a Sunday picnic.
