One thing I keep hearing from those on the radical right is that abolishing the minimum wage will lead to great economic booms and will result in lifting millions of people up out of poverty. They argue that when you get rid of such strict regulations such as the minimum wage, companies will flock to an area and invest, expand, and hire more people which creates economic growth.

Would abolishing the min. wage really lead to economic growth as they say? Or would companies simply hire more lower-skilled people at $2 and $3 an hour?

Employers would pay people $0.50 an hour if they could get away with it. Without a minimum wage, the U.S. would resemble Mexico. Do you want dilapidated shacks to spring up all over the country?

How does someone "get away with it" when an agreement to trade labor for for money is a voluntary agreement?

And are you claiming America isn't Mexico because of min. wage laws?

I doubt it but eliminating corporate income tax and the requirement for employers to pay other employment based taxes and fees would.

i only say get rid of the FEDERAL minimum wage laws, since it should be done at the state level to begin with.

A lot of people really want us to go back to the Gilded Age, it seems.

I think you "keep hearing" echos in your own mind and have never actually heard anyone say removing the minimum wage would cause "explosive job growth". What you've really heard but clearly didn't listen to is people say that gross increases of the minimum wage will cause inflation and job losses.

That seems to be it. A lot of people seem to forget that this country went many years without a minimum wage. Maybe we can bring back scrip and the company store while we're at it.

It's funny getting lectured by someone in the FOX bubble about what someone else didn't hear. This thread isn't about raising the minimum wage, it's about all the alleged benefits of abolishing it.
