I know I will be in the minority on this issue , as always.
First, the Officer is the School resource Officer - SRO, and works at the school.
The teacher called for assistance because she felt she needed it. That is what the resource officer is there for.
This student was causing a disruption, and was not listening to the teacher.
Where is the video from the beginning when the teacher was addressing the student? What was the student saying? Was she refusing to listen to the teacher? Was she cursing or threatening the teacher?
When the officer comes to the room he is there to protect the other students and the teacher. I am certain he instructed the student to get out of the desk , likely more than once. I do not fault the officer, he did what he needed to do.
Some people, including young adults and teens need to be moved by force when necessary and this was a time.
He possibly could have used another method to remove the young lady from the desk, but I don't fault him, he did what he needed to do quickly. I am certain the student is no angel like the media will paint her to be.
Lastly, where is the video portion showing the student disrespecting the teacher and refusing to listen?? The video was taken by another student and is like many of the 'videos' taken against police. They always only show the later part of the situation when the police come. They never show the guiltiness or wrongdoing of the offender before the police come.
It is a terrible shame what happened to her. No doubt about it.
I suspect she isn't the only one in that classroom dealing with tragedy. I'll bet other students have lost siblings, parents, grandparents, aunts... Probably a few dealing with drama around parental relationships as well. I imagine several are being abused even as we natter on here. I'll bet she isn't even the only foster kid in the room either.
If this class is like any other classroom in the country, there will be half a dozen or more students with with an ADHD, Autism Spectrum, etc. diagnosis and their IEPs often specify that they are to receive special consideration as well for their behavior.
It could be that more than half the class is struggling with something that they need special consideration for.
Should they all be allowed to fool around on their computers during class projects and use their phones "for a moment?" Should anyone need to follow the directions of the teachers and principals?
Often time the best thing for kids dealing with troubles is a safe environment with clear boundaries. My guess is this young woman is testing the boundaries and she's found out she can create quite a commotion.
So let the commotion reign while we show empathy and consideration for all their troubles and misfortunes.

Not everyone handles tragedy the same way, hell people don't grieve the same. Each has their own way of dealing with tragedies.
Take it on a one by one basis, this young lady might not be mentally equipped to deal with her tragic circumstance along with being placed in foster care, which in itself is another tragedy waiting to happen, if it hasn't already.
I have no clue what her entire class has or doesn't have in their corner.
I am thankful for my local school system and the level of respect students have for teachers, administrators and LEOs. As well Officers show respect to the students. People can poke fun at small rural towns all they want but it beats the heck of what is going on in schools in other areas.
My brother is an SRO, he has been a patrolman for both the city and county. He just text me with a question because a student asked him if female horses had udders. I asked him why they asked, he replied I think it was a bet who knows they are teenagers. He has said in the couple years he has had this position the closest thing to an altercation was a heated argument between divorced parents at a ball game who had to be escorted out.
With back injuries. Which are pretty much impossible to prove.
not impossible to prove at all, if it's more than just a sprain or bruise. Please don't think people are unintelligent to know the truth of what could be proven or not.
She allegedly has an arm in a cast with back/neck injuries. She's lucky he didn't break her neck in the process.

Not only that but this is two deaths within 6 months. That would be lot for someone in their 40s to handle, never mind a kid.
That's a failure of her up bringing. A 16 year old threw a child like tantrum and she was treated accordingly.
Yes a child failure since her mom and grandmother are deceased.
