China does away with one-child policy, adopts two-child policy
"China will allow all couples to have two children, abandoning its decades-long one-child policy," the official Xinhua new agency said in a short report.

...
Critics said the relaxation of rules was too little, and too late to redress substantial negative effects of the one-child policy on the economy and society.

...
A growing number of scholars had urged the government to reform the rules, introduced in the late 1970s to prevent population growth spiralling out of control, but now regarded as outdated and responsible for shrinking China's labour pool.

For the first time in decades the working age population fell in 2012, and China could be the first country in the world to get old before it gets rich.

Good for them - even though they should not forcing anyone as to how many children a family chooses to have.

It's too late.

If you google up China Demographic time bomb, you will find a plethora of articles that show China has doomed itself. If you are under 35, there are 130 men for 100 women. The new policy may change that, but like a pig through a python, the population of never-married old men will become a drain on the system. These old guys have no relatives - none at all.

Also, once women realize there is more to life than having babies, they quit having them. It's a problem in Russia, Japan, Europe; everywhere but India, Pakistan and Nigeria.

Oh yes we should, when we taxpayers have to pay for them.

I have to say that I respect the Chinese and the Chinese government because of this.

They had one child rule because they realized they couldn't afford so many kids and they didn't want their kids to suffer. (no education, no future, no good food on the table = disaster) At least the Chinese did not allow their kids and population to become the global burden.

Now they have a better economy, so they relax the rule Good for them.

They should have a 2 child policy to begin with rather than a one child policy. Then perhaps China's population issues would be less of mess today.

China is in its death throws. Their economy is ready to go belly up and they've made many of their cities unlivable. They're a powder keg ready to blow and war against foreign enemies is the only thing that will stop them from ripping themselves apart. So, increase the population and swarm their neighbors.
