Eating dog meat is socially not acceptable in America. However, are there laws against it?

Can a farmer raise dogs like he does pigs and kill them for meat like he would with pigs, assuming he has the customer base to support this practice? After all, legally, all animals are properties.

It's illegal to sell "companion animal" meat to the public.

There are laws against killing dogs for food. I'm surprised you didn't take the time to research that law before posting.

It's legal in 44 states.

Killing dogs and cats for meat is still legal in 44 U.S. states | Inhabitat - Sustainable Design Innovation, Eco Architecture, Green Building

I never knew that. I concede the facts that many states allow butchering, eating, selling dogs and cats for food.

He may be able to eat them because the wording of the laws in each state is a little different, and since some of them do not come right out and say, "It is illegal to eat a dog or cat", (why the hell do we have to spell everything out for people?), it's going to be difficult to charge someone for doing so...unless how they killed the animal was done in an inhumane manner.

BUT, it is NOT legal to SELL them for consumption, so your farmer would not be able to have the "customer base to support his practice".
