The nice cops advised her to break the law on the other side of the street for own safety.
actually it is not against the law to walk in the street, only to impede traffic. if she walked in the street facing traffic, she could see that traffic was coming, and she could move to avoid impeding such traffic. granted the cops could have suggested moving to the sidewalk that was just a few feet away as well, but some sidewalks are not comfortable from some who jog, especially when they are wet, as they tend to be a bit slippery.
Gosh, now Blacks can't Power walk in Their Neighborhoods!
The video cam does not explain a thing unless there are locals laws which mandate the direction folks can walk in their communities. The street certainly isn't a busy thorough fare so what is the problem and why was she stopped? I don't have a clue whether this was racial profiling but It is NOT clear why she was stopped, unless it was just another power play by the police.
There was no reason to ask for her name and date of birth and then call it in to dispatch for a background check.
It is an abuse of power to detain a pedestrian and call in for a background check when they are not suspected in any crime.
Her only embellishment was that they sounded their siren - but she had earbuds on an some sound made her turn around. The police concede they turned on their emergency lights.
I've had it happen to me before.
I'm white and I lived.
Allegedly the cops saw a truck almost hit her - but the video starts after this alleged incident when the cops are far behind her.
That should be noted by the officials because it certainly would explain things. The fact that this info has not been widely reported on makes me question it's validity.
walking down the middle of a street flapping her arms like a maniac and impeding traffic when there are sidewalks on either side is a pretty good reason.
I've had it happen to me before.
I'm white and I lived.
Pain in the neck yes, never tried to make it out to be more a big deal that it was.
