Well, we can rule out some things, though, can't we?
The pyramids aren't hollow. They are solid with narrow passages. That certainly doesn't scream grain storage.
You do realize that grain storage could mean seed storage like a seed bank too and that has been widely believed that they used some of the chambers inside for that. All you howling that you know the exact reason need to do some research yourselves. You only believe what you have been told.
Is a Doctor supposed to be an expert on ancient Egyptian history? Do you think Obama, Bush or Clinton knew everything on every subject when they ran for President? Of course not.
Nobody knows everything on every subject. The media can pick apart or embarrass any candidate or any other person if they really wanted too. The real question is why only certain candidates are closely watched while others are given a free pass.

Widely believed by whom? Anyone with credentials in the field?

If he doesn't know anything about it then he shouldn't have said anything in the first place rather than spouting some crackpot theory. And knowing what the pyramids were for is pretty common knowledge ( well I thought it was until I read this thread), you don't need to be an expert
Other than the fact that some people think you're a complete buffoon and totally incapable of being a functioning person if you're religious, there isn't one.

NOBODY KNOWS WHAT THEY WERE ORIGINALLY USED FOR!!!! We ONLY know what they ENDED up being used for and that might only be one part of it.

Personally, I will give people a free pass on not knowing something as tangential as the purpose of the pyramids. Not knowing is perfectly fair, as long as you say "I don't know".
But if you stand up behind a lectern to address people in an institute of learning, you damn well better have your facts straight.

That's not Dr Carson's assertion. His assertion is that Joseph built the pyramids to store sufficient grain to feed Egypt for seven years. And why would any sane person build something as enormous as a pyramid to use as a seed bank? That doesn't make any sense.
