Cool little town BTW. It's loosened up and become somewhat of a working class hippy enclave since many of the old Polish folks died off. Saturdays on the main drag are pretty lively. Lot more blacks and Arabs have moved in over the years.
You can still get the best Polish food in the country there.
It has about 25,000 (?) people and is completely surrounded by Detroit, as is Highland Park, home of Ford Motor.
Hamtramck was a Polish enclave for decades, with a Muslim minority going back to at least the 1970s. It is adjacent to southwest Detroit, which has had a large Muslim presence also back to at least the 1970s.
The Detroit area also has a significant Christian Arab population; especially Chaldeans from Chaldea in Iraq, there is an Iraqi consulate in the northern suburbs.
You wouldn't know because you've never been anywhere so don't be so haughty.
Man, I had the best Polish dish I've ever had in my life at the Poloni Restaurant. Polish sausage w/ sauerkraut, potato pancakes, perogies, mashed taters, and a giant cabbage roll.
So good. All home made, to boot. I'll definitely hit it up again. It's on Yemans, east of Jos Campau, maybe a mile east off 75, if you're ever in the area.
