When in the history of this nation did SSM exist? Never you say? How do you ban something that never existed?

mar·riage
ˈmerij/
noun
1.
the legally or formally recognized union of a man and a woman (or, in some jurisdictions, two people of the same sex) as partners in a relationship.

For centuries there was no legal recognition of marriage at all. All one had to do was state that you were married or cohabitate and you were considered married.
