For all you nuts who care about what's best for humanity as a whole,

$1 mill could extend some kid (or adult) with cancer's life 5 years before it comes back,

Or it could buy like 10 small houses for homeless people, many of whom are veterans.

And those 10 houses would prevent a lot of illnesses that come from being homeless.

Why are people fighting for gov funded healthcare, which is almost a luxury, when there isn't even gov funded housing right now and there are lots of homeless people. Gov funded housing is much cheaper, prevents you from being bitten by spiders and mice and crap, and lasts longer.

You might say there IS gov funded housing, like section 8, but that's a very small drop in the ocean because the wait list is like 10 years and it takes a percent of your income, it's not free.

Inb4 post gets deleted for trolling, or I get flamed by internet haters.

And why not government funded country clubs? Most people don't want to join a club, so the cost would be quite small.

Do you take the mortgage interest income tax deduction? Well there's just a portion of your government funded shelter.

Buying each person a house is only the beginning. Each house will have hundreds of dollars in monthly utility bills, will need appliances and regular maintenance, not to mention insurance.

Sadly, if you follow up on that series Extreme Makeover House Edition, the costs to maintain the beautiful homes that were built for some of the families proved to be too burdensome and some of the families ultimately lost their homes as a result.

Most people that are operating on pure emotion don't think beyond the immediate gratification of giving away the house, literally.
