My mom has several retail shops in southern california. It is not like I can really avoid working. But My mall has warned of possible terrorist threats several times. We have to receive Counterterrorism Training. Very inconvenient and really pretty pathetic when we are not allowed to carry any firearms in the mall.
I will visit Paris to show these people my support. But not right away.
This post speaks volumes about the "perceptions" that pattern thinking.
Kudos to you for ignoring the nonsense.
Most have referenced the changing dynamic of various cities making them less attractive to visit. Helloooo, that little unavoidable characteristic has nothing whatsoever to do with Islam, but rather more people being able to travel than ever before. The whole world and EVERY city is experiencing the same thing.
Any one suggesting refraining from visiting the U.K. because it no longer resembles the quaint country of WWII should just take a moment to consider what they've just put down in print.
Take a drive to the Cotswolds, Devonshire, the Dales and you'll be presented with all of the "quaint" you can tolerate. If you CHOOSE to define a country based upon the progress of it's cities and that's where you think you find the best measure of a country's "quaintness" then that well used, and highly appropriate phrase Americans love to use: "you can't fix stupid" comes to mind in a most appropriate application.
Paris is constantly challenged to provide the 'City of Love' experience of old. Why on earth would anyone expect it wouldn't be? I remember the Eiffel tower when all it had was white lights for decoration and a couple of red ones near the top for aerial safety concerns. To say I'd not go back because all those coloured light patterns offend me just begs scorn.
Any modern city expected to remain "old" is an oxymoron of the first order.
Im kind of eager to see how these attacks affects anyones perspective of visiting the area?
If you had plans? Would you cancel? Do you still plan on visiting there if you ever wanted to do so?
Me , personally... I have a paid vacation booked to Germany next year thats already paid for . Although the recent refugee crisis , my plans are un changed . I still intend on going..
Any input?
I'll go again. I will also go to Israel, although they get hit a lot. I won't allow those scumbag radicals change my life.
In Brussels, the subways are shut down right now and the city is under a curfew and the highest level of terrorist threat. Would you defy authorities and join a group of potential targets under an imminent attack?
Of course not. First of all, the trains are obviously not going anywhere in a situation like that so what would be the point? I'm talking about the everyday situation where you know there's always a general threat but life goes on, as in NYC.

I have no plans to visit France anytime in the near future, but this doesn't change my desire to visit at some point. I'm far more apprehensive about visiting some parts of this country, especially those areas that are rural, Conservative, in the deep South, places containing people who are racist, undeveloped, and not refined. California has many areas like this.

No doubt those areas will be happy you choose to not visit. However, if you did, you might actually be surprised to find out they aren't what you think they are. Of course, you might not be happy to discover that. I guess one must be absolutely in love with Obama to be developed and refined.
I'm glad I've seen lots of Europe over the years. Though I enjoy going there, I'm going to chill for a bit and see how things play out. I'd like to go back and probably will but not during any holiday season. But I wouldn't have done that anyway.
Also, I don't like the big capitals as much as I like the smaller cities and towns and countryside. So I don't think I'll ever be in much danger. Still, I hate international flights - especially now. So...it'll be awhile. And that's not out of fear. It's out of frustration and basically resignation.
Hope to go back again some day, but for now, I'll explore my own country - there's so much to see and do here! Next year we're going to drive up the New England coast and I'm as excited about that trip as I've ever been about going to Europe!
Buy me a plane ticket to Paris and I'll go in a heartbeat.
