Any American citizen who is legally able to purchase and own a firearm is allowed to own a firearm. Simple as that. What is the controversy?

I don't know about Muslims in general, but people on the terrorist watch list should definitely be prevented from buying guns. This is something we are not doing now, which is insane.

FBI data from last year show that people on the watchlist were cleared to purchase guns 94 percent of the time.

I suspect the question is born from the Islamophobia that has been going around, most susceptible to those who fear what they cannot understand (i.e., knuckleheads)...

That's a failure of the system, not the law itself. Update the databases, make sure they communicate with each other and viola, no problem.

It is a failure of the system. It is kind of amusing seeing liberal democrats going up against the ACLU though. The ACLU doesn't believe there should even be a watchlist.

I'm sure by now you've seen the numerous discussions here on CD and elsewhere, expressing the belief that Muslims in America pose a danger to our country because of their religion. All manner of 'novel' suggestions have been offered on how to deal with that danger; even suggestions that would in-arguably impact their rights as American citizens. I've not seen this particular issue discussed.

Of course, they have a right to defend themselves like anyone else. Nice attempt at a troll post.

There are a sizable number of faux "conservatives" who believe that "conservatism" and ignorance are the same thing and that non-Whites should be lesser citizens with lesser rights. These faux "conservatives" tend to be rabid followers of one Donald J Trump.

The idea that an American should be treated differently because of their religion, ethnicity, location, etc is abhorrent but sadly such ignorant beliefs seem to be the root of this "fauxservative" movement that is hijacking the Republican Party as of late.
