For years, American military expansion in Africa has gone largely unnoticed, thanks to a deliberate effort to keep the public in the shadows.

In the shadows of what was once called the “Dark Continent,” a scramble has come and gone. If you heard nothing about it, that was by design. But look hard enough and—north to south, east to west—you’ll find the fruits of that effort: a network of bases, compounds, and other sites whose sum total exceeds the number of nations on the continent.[MOD CUT/copyright]

We have a homeless problem, border problems and we need to be the world's police?

I don't understand why this is a problem.

Having bases in Africa doesn't prevent us from securing the domestic borders.

Nor does it obligate us to be 'world police.'

Nor does it prevent city and county governments from implementing programs for the homeless.

They say there is no money for those two things I mentioned. Wonder how much we could save as a nation if we decided to mind our own business and take care of our own?

Indeed they do, but they're lying. They just don't want to pay for those things, so instead of arguing about the merits, they just claim we don't have the money.
