Superpowers can do things that other countries can't. Simple as that. Double standard? Yeah, but let's not forget a lot of those countries (especially in Europe) want us there so that they don't have to spend much on defense themselves.
Ya think?
What if that money went into paying off Natl Debt? (Maybe help our Vets?)
Only a few of those countries need our help. The rest can afford their own.
A famous Joint Canadian and American forces base is NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) It used radars largely based in Canada and Canadian fighters and American fighters to intercept Soviet bombers over mostly Canadian air space. NORAD had an American Commander and a Canadian deputy (second in Command). NORAD was moved recently from the Mountain to Colorado Springs where Space Command is located .
I have heard that the count is around 900 bases around the world depending what you call a base, and that number some say may be as high as a 1000.
At the height of the Roman Empire they had around 36 I believe and that empire crashed, depending who you talk to they say the U.S. Empire is crashing or will begin to crash soon.
First of all, this "list" is including Marine embassy guard detachments, defense attaches, and training teams invited by the host nation. Fewer than a dozen of these are actual bases in the sense of the term base. Furthermore you think the US is the only country with overseas bases? There are British bases in Cyprus, Kenya, Brunei, Germany (until 2019 at least), and Belize. The Russians have bases in Syria, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Armenia, Moldova, and Cuba.
Secondly there are quite a few foreign troops in the US. The German Air Force conducts their flight training at Holloman AFB in New Mexico, the British Army's Bermuda Regiment conducts combat training at Camp Lejune in North Carolina. Several countries also have military or paramilitary embassy guard units (Italian Carabineri, Dutch Royal Marechausee, and the French Gendarmerie). I personally know for a fact that there is a Carabinieri detachment at the Italian Embassy in Washington DC. As with the US, most countries will also have defense attaches and other assorted military odds and ends.
It works both ways, last year a friend of mine who is a US Marine conducted training with the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps in Aruba & Curacao. Nobody complained that the US Marines were invading the Dutch Caribbean
1. We have bases in countries that want them and likely feel a need for them.
2. We don't need a foreign power to have bases in our country and I hope we never do.
3. I honestly feel that said countries don't pay enough of the costs associated with our bases given the money it saves them on their own defense. Examples: Germany, Japan and South korea.

The people don't want many of these bases, there are always protests in many of these countries but of course we don't hear about it.
you know we make enough money- we have resources and wealth- we are the powerhouse, we say we are-- - just have some j+++ses who can't manage right--corrupt, un-American and greedy-- and sometimes some very silly people as leaders of those resources. But -there is more than enough on "earth" so no child is ever hungry-- anywhere-- sad state when our own soldiers don't even have enough hardware to do their job and be safe---so many stories--- vets can tell.. sad
