The U.S. officially has 662 military bases outside of the U.S.

If other nations were ever permitted to have military bases in the U.S., would you be okay with that? Why or why not?

I've never really seen people discuss this question before, which is why I ask.

I'd say we have 662 too many now. We should not have them neither should other countries have them here.
I can imagine the outcry if the US allowed another country to have a base inside the US.

Superpowers can do things that other countries can't. Simple as that. Double standard? Yeah, but let's not forget a lot of those countries (especially in Europe) want us there so that they don't have to spend much on defense themselves.

Has nothing to do with double standards. Europe couln't handle the logistics of bombing North Africa without American help.

Yep...Superpowers are totally free to be stupid enough to spread themselves too thin, stick their noses into other's affairs (to their own detriment), and bankrupt their own treasuries defending wealthy nations that can afford to defend themselves.

Basically, we're being played for fools by our so called "allies" while we go broke. Why any American would be proud of that just because we're a so called "superpower," goes over my head.

That's nothing to be proud of...we're fools. What good has it done for us. Nothing.

We are not the first superpower to be devastated by the cost of being a superpower.

The cost of Empire was one of the reasons we surpassed Great Britain economically, as we did not have the burden of being a superpower at the time. It was one of the reasons why the sun eventually set on the Empire, with us inheriting it from the UK. The cost of empire also brought down the czar and brought down the French, German, Russian, all sorts of empires, going back to Rome.

Actually, there was a German Air force school in Fort Bliss, in Texas that recently shut down: German Air force operations leaving Fort Bliss - El Paso Times

It wasn't an all-German base, but it had Germans there armed and training for a long time.

I personally am no fan of the US Empire having bases in Europe, the Arab world or anywhere else that isn't America. We should mind our own damn business and use that money instead on paying our debt or cutting taxes.

Americans are so proud of being a Superpower, that they can't see the forest through the trees. They think that we're so damn smart just because we fancy ourselves as shotcallers. In reality, we're the biggest fools on the planet. I'd be laughing at us too if i were one of our so called "allies."
