The reason you wont hear about this particular one is because it's based on an absurd premise. The "negro" is not a persistent human being that suffered through slavery and the civil rights struggle. The notion that a person today should be compensated for transgressions against a different person, hundreds of years ago, simply because they share the same race is unreasonable.

There is not a single black person in the United States today that can relate or directly attribute their current disposition to slavery. There is not a single person alive today that was a victim or benefactor of slavery. Further, why should a group of people be forced to pay something to another group of people when both groups were not effected by the transgression that warranted the payment?

Dr. King is popular with conservatives because he's dead. Safely buried away, and can't say a word.

When he was alive, they despised him.

So when they bring up his name, I ignore 'em.

Who do you think was enforcing Jim Crow laws in the south? You must not be aware that it used to be the Democrats who were the racist and it was republicans who were the black sympathizers. This one of the great follies of the KKK as they were instrumental in changing this dynamic due to their influence on elections. You could not get elected and be sympathetic to black people in the south after the KKK **** started. The racism in the conservative party is a relatively new phenomenon (majority of abolishers were republicans).

He was a Republican, to be more specific. That is a fact.

So what if he was?

His party affiliation is meaningless. Most of us African Americans aren't Republicans NOW and we don't care if MLK was or wasn't.

So liberals were not the ones enforcing Jim Crow laws? LOL!

The point still stands. Conservatives have a lot to be ashamed of, but by and large their legacy in regards to MLK and civil rights (namely the abolishment of slaverly) is not one of them.

You ignoring conservatives on this topic only shows your distinct lack knowledge when it comes to American civil rights history. Conservatives did not "despise him". Most liberals did though, up until Kennedy/Johnson and in Johnson's case it was largely for political purpose rather than any altruistic reasons.

Hint: Equal opportunity was not something created by the liberals to appeal to black people. That is core tenet of conservative ideology, that admittedly been lost over the past few generations. This is not say the hijacking of this principal was not denigrated by the liberals for political purposes, but I digress.
