“Today’s designation of the Open Society Foundations and the Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation as so-called ‘undesirable’ organizations will only further restrict the work of civil society in Russia for the benefit of the Russian people,” State Department spokesman Mark Toner said Monday. “This action is yet another example of the Russian Government’s growing crackdown on independent voices and a deliberate step to further isolate the Russian people from the world.”
It is troubling to see Russia go back to the USSR ways. It's not about Soros, his charities were among many others which was targeted by the Russian government.

Soros funds groups that promote instability in societies.

At least Russia has the guts to keep him out.

They will shut down anyone if they think they might criticize the government. You can call it gutsy, but most people would call it shutting down freedom of speech.

Exactly...

I understand the whole free speech argument, but this guy and his organizations have a track record of destabilizing countries and currency manipulation.

If all he did was criticize government, then no one would care... However, that is simply not the case. Right now, the U.S. is the prime example of the effects of Soros funded groups on society.

His fund was one of many which were targeted. The law allows the Russian government to shut them down if they think they might criticize the government. I am surprised any American would support such law, let alone call it 'gusty'.

I could say pornography is freedom of expression - doesn't mean I want my kids exposed to it. I will restrict their freedom with regards to this as long as I am in charge.

Some things... some ideas... some people are just prone to be destructive. It is prudent to separate oneself from those things, ideas, or people if you want to keep moving forward.

You, as a parent, can restrict anything you want from your own kids.

This is about government creating laws which allow them to shut down businesses if they think they might criticize the government. Would you support such law in US?

Soros and his cronies do a lot more than "criticize the government".

Again - this is about more than simple criticism of government. He screws around with a country's currency and finances.

Let me repeat, the law allows them to shut down companies which might criticize the government. Soros was one of many who were targeted.

Would you support such law in US? Yes, or no?
