Our media would report 1000 BB's as 1000 rounds!

You could have 100,000 rounds and the only one you have to worry about it is the one discharged in the wrong direction. In the latest San Bernardino shooting the shooters only fired a little more than 60 rounds; all the rest were just added weight they had to haul around.

By the way; does anybody know how many rounds they physically carried on them when they went into the convention hall? I know that they had about 6,000; but that probably counted how many they had at their house and in their vehicle. I presume that they did not have more than a few hundred on the at the time the shooting started?

A thousand AR15 or AK47 rounds is roughly the size of a small shoe box. It may sound like a lot, but it isn't. In a typical range outing, you might burn through three to four hundred in an hour or two. 1k rounds is at best four decent range trips.

When you hear "omg! 8k rounds of ammo!! Teh stockpiles!!", please let an accurate mental picture form - which would be eight smallish shoe boxes.

Picture four shoe boxes, and four stacked on top of that. That's it. It barely takes up any room in a small closet, let alone justify the hysteria around "a stockpile" of ammo.

Thank you.
To the people who have never held a gun, much less shot one at a range, 1K rounds sounds like a gun nut to them. No amount of logic or education will convince many of them otherwise. Because after all, in their minds, no one should own guns to begin with.

5000 rounds a month is used by someone who participates in shooting competitions, not the average gun owner.

Anyone who enjoys target shooting and doesn't have a few thousand round stash is foolish.
My local range had empty shelves for months following Sandy Hook.

To the hand wringing anti-gun zealots, 500 rounds is a fearsome arsenal.
To many of us, it's an afternoon at the range.
